User controlled reception - When IT improves the daily life

Friday the 11th November 2022 dedicated Jonstrupvang the new user controlled reception desk. Allegro IT is proud to have been a part of this project, where we developed the user interface that can be used to forward phone calls.

The users project

The development project was started on the initiativ of the users of Jonstrupvang. They wanted an activity in their daily life with meaning and a practical purpose. Their suggestion was to go against the times and make a user controlled receptionist function. Others turn to more and more automated solutions. The user controlled reception gives the people that calls Jonstrupvang a personal experience with direct contact to the users. Furthermore, the reception desk provides a meaningful activity for the users in their daily life.

Day of dedication

The dedication was a important day for the users of Jonstrupvang. The atmosphere was excited and a lot of people participated. Chairman for the health board in the Coppenhagen region Christoffer Buster Reinhardt participated. Christoffer Buster Reinhardt stated among other: “Why does other places not have a user controlled reception”.

The online magasin SOCIALPÆDAGOGEN ONLINE writes about Jonstrupvang and their many projects to enrich the users daily life. The artiklen is called (Danish): “Skæve kroppe kræver skæve løsninger”.

The application it self

The software solution is developed by Allegro IT, and is made as a plugin to the 3CX softphone. 3CX is a standard VoIP system which is very stable and flexible. Allegro IT has experience with developing plugins and integrations to 3CX. Integrations for both the server part and the softphone part.

The program is made so that if noone is manning the user controlled reception. Then the automatic functions of 3Cx is active. But if a user logs in however, then the reception is logged in to the call que. After that calls will be received by the reception. Incoming calls are visible on the touch screen. If more than one incoming call is queued, then the number of calls are visible on the screen.

The user clicks the button to answer the call and talks to the person which called. When the person has explained who they want to talk to. The user forward the call to the person or group in question. The forwarding is done with a touch on the image of the person or group. A call can be answered and forwarded with only two clicks (touches).

Because of the users challenges motion wise, it was imperative the ui was adapted to their specific needs. This is the reason you see the menu in the bottom of the screen, in stead of the more normal placing in the top. On a touch screen it is a significant difference reaching for the bottom, in stead of the top of the screen.
